Virgin Coconut Oil is a food and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept intact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss. Virgin Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body’s immune system. Lauric acid is also found in human mother’s milk.  Dr. Mary Enig suggests the average adult include about 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil per day in their diet to take in an equivalent amount of lauric acid that a nursing infant would receive from breast milk. flax-seeds

Raw Brown Whole Flax Seeds. Buy them here!

Our brown flax seeds are completely raw and unprocessed. They were grown in Italy and are traceable back to the farm that raised them. The farm is certified organic and a sample of the seeds were lab tested for the presence of glyphosate and none was found.

Learn more about the unique nutritional qualities of flax seeds here.

Flax seeds can be enjoyed in a number of ways from raw, soaked, sprouted, boiled or ground and can be treated as you would other seeds or nuts. However, flax seed must be finely cut into a meal to get maximum benefits of the OMEGA-3 oil and dietary fiber. We recommend that you buy a coffee grinder and dedicate its use to grinding flax seeds. Once ground, the flax seeds should be consumed quickly, as the oil inside the seeds oxidizes rapidly.

The recommended daily amount of flax seeds to eat is about 1–2 Tbsp. The most beneficial amount for maximum nutritional value of ground flax seed is 2 tablespoons daily. It can be mixed into 10–12 oz. of juice or water. Make sure you use plenty of water when adding flax seed to your diet.

Ground flax seed can easily be added on top of dishes including: baked products, stir-fry dishes, soup or stews, cereal and yogurt.

Flax seed is 35–40% oil so a similar amount may be omitted from any recipe requiring oil that also includes ground flax seed. Similarly, about 1 Tbsp. of ground flax seed steeped in 3 Tbsp. of water for 2-3 minutes will substitute for one egg in recipes. Flax seed contains NO GLUTEN for those with gluten allergy.

himalayan-salt-grinder-refill-17-6oz-bag-p1446-medium

Much purer than sea salt, Himalayan pink salt combines sublime flavor from the ancient sea with rich minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. Buy it here!

This marine fossil salt, harvested from the foothills of the Himalayas, is 100% natural, unrefined and unpolluted pink, translucent crystals. Its subtle, crunchy texture, raw or cooked, makes a unique and delightful addition to any savory fare.

Himalayan Salt History

Since ancient times, salt has been the principal source of income for people living in those remote regions. Because food preserved in salt retains its nutritional properties for several months, Himalayan people use it to keep fish and meat all year long. They also use it as a currency in trading. For centuries, once a year in springtime, the Himalayan people have been transporting the salt to the Nepalese valleys for trade. Heavily burdened yaks carry the salt, traveling along narrow sloping paths, often these paths have been carved in cliffs. Once they have arrived at their destination, the salt is traded for cereals, which is the staple of the diet for these Himalayan salt traders. It is easy to understand why salt has always been so precious for mankind.
